Well, since there is no "Problems, Suggestions or Complaints" forums, specifically related to this internet forum, I decided to point something out...

This is supposed to be an Australian forums, right? Well, you probably couldn't change it due to it not being in the Administrator Control Panel, or without direct access to the PHP files.

But still...

Like any good techno-geek I have an iPhone (and yes I got it on the first day they were released in Australia )

Anyway, I use it quite a bit in the classroom, there are a heap of apps that are really useful. So I figured I would start a thread listing them, in case anyone else uses an iPhone and may find this helpful.

iStudiez Pro - a timetabling program. Very easy to use, with colour coded classes, day & month view, ability to store assessment due dates etc.

I have recently become a Regional TSO with North Coast Region for the project, I'll be based out fo the Coffs Harbour Area. Previously I was involved in supporting IT in schools as part of the North Coast Regional IT team.

Technically this project looks good, so I am very intersted in the educational side of the project.

g'day all,

I've intoduced myself and now busy writing this post.

This is weird but I found out by accident if you plug in your laptop to a data projector, the laptop's screen res defaults to 1024X576 allowing you to see the whole desktop without that 'orrible scrolling up and down.

This screen res will 'stick' even if you unplug the data projector. You will lose it if you try another screen res .....until you find another data projector.

regards

This lesson has had quite a few teachers talking lately. It is an experiment to measure the speed of sound.

Students go outside with their laptops to a place where an echo occurs. The student go to a place which is a known distance from the object causing the echo. They use Audacity on the laptops to record a large sharp sound (I used the sound of hitting a tin with a stick). Students can then analyse the results to find the time between the original sound and the echo, to calculate the speed ...

I am sure many of you are aware of it, but the ASX Sharemarket Trading Game is a great way of integrating ICT into Commerce and/or Business Studies. Students really enjoy it and it can be as easy or as complex as you (and they) want it to be. Check out the ASX Sharemarket Game page for details, including pre-prepared lesson plans on a variety of topics.

This would be a great activity to use the new laptops for. Students could participate in the game, create an excel worksheet tracking their ...

After much frustration with non-validated windows and the like, I decided to take the same approach that any bored student would take while sitting in class: to try to gain high level access to the laptop. For this, I limited myself to only software modifications. Nothing was done to the hardware

After much googling, I was eventually able to gain access to the bios. Basically, if I want to, I can now format the machine (not that I am going to)

The kicker? It took 30 minutes.

Check it out here: http://bphsmod.wikispaces.com/ as a guest you will be able to view the wiki, but it requires registration (and my approval) to join & modify it.

I think this is something that could be put into any class. Any thoughts?
