Apparently the DET is working on this. Once the 26 days expires your computer will continue working, but the desktop will be black and every 15 minutes you will get a warning that you may be using a pirated version of Windows.

I am guessing you are using the first teacher rollout? (T1). When that was released Windows 7 was only in trials and therefor not activated. I don't actually know much about a solution to this. I can only imagine two, DET will buy a volume license from Microsoft or Teachers will use Student (S1) pooled computers during the day.

As I understand it one of the first functions of the TSO's in schools will be the reimaging of the T1 laptops. This should rectify the problem.

DET already has volume licencing for Microsoft software.
S1 have been imaged with a Release to Manufacture (RTM) version of Windows 7 that was given to DET early.

T1 was imaged with the Release Candidate (test version). These devices will need to be reimaged with a RTM version of Win7. This is being worked out now.

Sorry, but it is not a function of the TSOs.

Correct. Except the T1 devices will not be reimaged. A full version of Windows 7 will be on the pooled S1 devices for teachers to be assigned to. Teacher may be issued with a T2 device later on.

Correction.

T1 will be reimaged - they are working out the processes now. They will be reimaged with the S1 image - this may be done automatically, or it may require some intervention by the TSO - still to be worked out.

I concur - I have been told by three different sources that the T1 laptops WILL be reimaged with the full version of Windows7, auto-mapping of the online storage ("k-drive I think it's called) and some other stuff. I was almost told that the reimaging would be a function of the TSOs.

Having said that, given the history of policy & procedure development sighing the DET, anything is possible and likely to change Smile

Agreed. The DER program is still in its infancy and I assume it will be subject to teething issues and policy and procedure changes.
